CONFETTI EGGS  or "CASCARONES"

Text Box: Make Eggs      *          Gallery of Eggs

Thousands of egg shells are wasted daily throughout the world. Why not recycle egg shells?!

Call them what you want.  Easter Eggs.  Pysanky.  Cascarones.   In the United States the eggs are hard boiled, dyed with food coloring, and then eaten.  In the Ukraine the eggs are hollow, unfilled, and exquisitely decorated as keepsakes and known as Pysanky.  Any occasion provides an excuse for breaking confetti filled egg shells above unsuspecting heads … a custom that can be traced back to early Spanish California is the breaking of Cascarones -- In the 1800 the egg shells were often filled with gold and silver confetti... Adults and children broke eggs above each other's head to honor, surprise, and celebrate as well as to wish one another life, hope, and prosperity…While a young lover placed a claim on someone by breaking a cologne filled shell above a head.

The custom of exchanging dyed eggs can even be traced to the ancient Egyptians and Persians.  Throughout many cultures the egg represents various dimensions of the mystery of life and embodied great powers.  Place significance and meaning or simply enjoy.  Confetti eggs are beautiful enough to cherish and filled with confetti for your added pleasure.

“These are tons of fun!”  said Alaxandra  after smashing a confetti-filled egg above her fellow girl scout’s head.

This Hawaii Girl Scout troop recycled egg shells and smash confetti eggs
